Ever surfaced from a dive wondering, “What was that fish?” The PADI Fish Identification Specialty Course helps turn curiosity into confidence by teaching you how to recognize and classify the fascinating fish you encounter on your dives. Over a single day and two dives, you'll learn to identify fish families by key features like body shape, color markings, and fin placement - skills that can be applied anywhere in the world. Beyond identification, you'll gain insight into fish behavior, helping you anticipate movement and position yourself for that perfect photo or observation. The course also introduces basic survey techniques and ways to contribute to marine research and conservation through PADI AWARE initiatives. Course Structure & Schedule The Fish Identification Diver Course comprises 2 main components : Knowledge development to learn the theoretical basics and safety aspects. Once a course is booked, we assign e-learning materials at the earliest to help you complete theory sections at your pace & convenience, prior to arrival at the dive centre. Briefing sessions and open water dives with a PADI Instructor where you'll learn to recognize what types of fish you see based on unique characteristics of local fish families and species; fish survey techniques and strategies; and about Project AWARE activities that can help protect aquatic life. We are also happy to conduct the Fish Identification Diver Course alongside your Open Water, Advanced Open Water or other PADI courses to ensure you make the most of the time you spend with us! Just get in touch and we'll be happy to curate a personalized itinerary for you! We recommend that you visit us at the dive center a day before starting your course to complete paperwork, & get yourself fitted for the equipment you will be using for the next few fun-filled days! Additionally, if you have not dived in over 6 months, we recommend you sign up for a skill refresher prior to starting the course.
