How to book scuba diving in India, step by step

The short version

Booking scuba diving in India takes five steps. Decide between a try dive and a course, compare shops on their listings, send an enquiry with the Check availability button, read the shop's reply, then confirm and pay the shop directly. Coral Circuit does not take payment for the dive.

Get the details in writing before you pay: what is included, whether GST is included, whether photos are, how many minutes you will be underwater, and what happens if the weather cancels.

Step 1: Try dive or course

If you have never dived, you have two choices. A try dive is a single-day experience that does not certify you. PADI calls its version Discover Scuba Diving, and describes it as a way to try scuba "without certifying you as a diver". A course, such as PADI Open Water Diver, certifies you to dive independently with a certified buddy. PADI describes that course as typically three to four full days.

Choose a try dive if you are on a short trip, or you only want to know whether you like it. Choose a course if you already know you want to dive again. PADI says a Discover Scuba Diving experience can count toward the Open Water Diver course if you tell the dive centre in advance, and that you must start the whole course within 12 months. Other training agencies have their own rules, so ask the shop how it credits a try dive.

Step 2: Compare shops and listings

Start from scuba diving in India, or browse dive shops, courses and packages. Open two or three listings for the same place and compare them side by side.

  • The price, if the listing shows one. Prices vary by shop, so compare the listings and then ask the shop to confirm.
  • How long you will be in the water. Some shops price a try dive by the minute: Netrani Scuba Adventures listed 10 to 20 minutes at ₹2,499 and 30 to 40 minutes at ₹4,499 on Coral Circuit, as of 17 October 2026. A cheaper dive can simply be a shorter one.
  • The certification the shop lists, such as PADI or SSI, and its Google rating with the review count.
  • Whether the dive is a shore dive or from a boat, and whether it starts in a pool.

Season matters too. See the best time for scuba diving in India before you fix a date.

Step 3: Send an enquiry with Check availability

On a shop, course or city page, tap Check availability. A form opens with these fields:

  • When: a date, which starts as tomorrow. Change it to the day you want.
  • How many people: starts at 2. Some shops set a maximum group size.
  • Experience: Never dived, Never dived and not a confident swimmer, Tried a dive once, or Certified diver.
  • Your name, and a phone number or an email address. One of the two is required.
  • An optional message.

The form says it sends your details to the shop and keeps a copy so Coral Circuit can follow up. If you send an enquiry from a city page rather than a shop page, it goes to up to three businesses in that city that have published prices. Where a shop has a phone number, there is also a WhatsApp button, and the shop's phone and email sit under the form if you would rather contact them yourself.

What to tell the shop

The form has no health field, so use the message box. Put these in it:

  • Your date, and whether you can move it by a day or two.
  • Your group size, including any children and their ages.
  • Your certification, if any, and when you last dived.
  • Anything about your health, and whether you are a confident swimmer.
  • Whether you want photos or video.

On health, the general standard is a medical questionnaire. PADI says you fill one in before a Discover Scuba Diving experience, and that depending on your answers you may need a doctor's statement. Its form says a physician's review is required if you answer yes to certain questions. DAN, the Divers Alert Network, says only medical professionals can give clearance to dive, and that you should not ask dive shop staff for medical advice. If anything worries you, see a doctor before you travel and tell the shop. PADI also lists a minimum age of 10 for Discover Scuba Diving, but ask each shop for its own age rule.

Step 4: What the shop replies

After you send the enquiry, the form confirms it and shows a reference number. The shop replies by phone or email, so check both. A good reply names the date and time, confirms the price for your group, and says what is included. If the shop has not replied in two days, the form tells you to email support at the address it shows and quote your reference. Calling the shop yourself is also fine.

If two shops reply, compare what each reply actually promises, not only the total. Cost is covered in how much scuba diving costs in India.

Step 5: Confirm and pay the shop

Once you are happy, tell the shop you want the slot. You pay the shop, not Coral Circuit. The enquiry form says nothing is paid now, and the confirmation says you pay nothing until you agree a price with the shop.

Ask how the shop wants to be paid, whether it asks for a deposit, and for a receipt. Keep the reply in writing, by email or WhatsApp, in case plans change.

What to ask in writing

  • What is included: instructor, kit, tank, boat, transport, food.
  • Whether the price is per person.
  • Whether GST is included, and whether the receipt shows it.
  • Whether photos or video are included or cost extra.
  • How many minutes you will be underwater, not only how long the trip lasts.
  • What happens if weather cancels the dive: a refund, a new date, or a voucher.
  • The shop's cancellation terms if you cancel.

Ask which shop will run your dive. Some dives are sold by agents for shops they do not own.

Cancellation terms

The cancellation and refund policy says weather cancellations, no-show rules and refunds beyond 7 days are the operator's responsibility. It gives examples of what an operator's terms may include: partial refunds based on timing, credit vouchers, and no refund within 24 to 48 hours of the experience. It also says an operator that cancels owes a full refund.

The policy's 7-day full refund applies to anything paid through Coral Circuit. Because you pay the shop directly, the shop's own terms are what you will rely on, so get them in writing before you pay. If you have a problem with a shop, write to Coral Circuit support at the address on the policy page.
